It's that time of year when everyone goes ga-ga for Pumpkin Spice! And why not - who can resist the comforting scent of fall as we return to cooking inside the home, the seasoned spice in our food and the crispness in the air around us. Your skin is a very important organ because it’s the first line of defense against any invasion of our body. Why? Because what goes ONTO the skin, goes INTO the blood. EFFECTS OF SUN EXPOSURE There are 3 skin layers epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous. Tattoos are placed in the second layer, dermis but right above it, in between epidermis and the dermis are cells called melanocytes. When exposed to sun, these cells produce a dark substance melanin which we call a “tan”. Vanity tells us that we look better, but what is actually happening is our body is defending the deep skin layers from the destructive UV rays. HOW DOES A TAN AFFECT YOUR TATTOO? It distorts the colour especially bright colours. This is not temporary! It has a similar effect to laser tattoo removal. UV rays that are not stopped by the tanned filter, seep through and damage cells in the deeper layers of the skin, where your tattoo is placed and damage molecules of ink. The body is amazing and our self immune system will constantly attempt to get rid of the smaller tattoo ink particles and break down the bigger ones. When you get sunburnt on the tattoo or surrounding areas it speeds up ink breakdown and causes the immune system to start repairing the damage. While skin damage is being repaired the smaller ink particles are being eliminated from the body through the lymphatic system and liver. Your tattoo is loosing it’s vibrancy. Maintain good skin and the vibrancy of your body art with Auroma Tattoo Savers! Well, here we are. Another traditional May long weekend with traditional rainy weather. Here in Western Canada, we have experienced unusually mild temperatures leading up to this may long weekend. Many have had the urge to buy their flower baskets earlier than usual and planting seeds earlier than May long.. yes, me too. What's life without a little risk here and there and besides, if the seeds don't take... try again. How easy it is to plant some Sage and Lavender plants at your local garden centre. Plucking these blossoms and sprigs when ripe and inserting them into large tea bag sachets is a wonderful way to carry the scents of summer long into the fall and winter. But how do we care for these plants in the meantime? Although we claim to appreciate the eco-culture, pests can ruin our precious garden. Here's are a couple of easy mixes you can make in a spray bottle and protect your sacred garden, guilt-free and eco-sensitively. Here's an old prairie homesteader recipe and a hack: Pioneer Remedy Onion and Garlic SprayMince one organic clove of garlic and one medium sized organic onion. Add to a quart of water. Wait one hour and then add one teaspoon of cayenne pepper and one tablespoon of liquid soap to the mix. This organic spray will hold its potency for one week if stored in the refrigerator. You will smell it - but it's designed to keep those stupid ants and aphids at bay! Companion Planting Attract Lady Bugs (aphid-eaters) by planting daisies in your garden. Beautiful and useful. Know some more? Feel free to share! Many consumers are unaware how harmful traditional paraffin candles are. It's a pleasure for me to educate them at all of my shows. Soy candles are a healthier and safer alternative to paraffin candles because paraffin candles contain carcinogenic compounds. Paraffin candles release chemicals into the air that are unhealthy to breathe. These chemicals can immediately trigger allergies or asthmatic symptoms to those who suffer from these conditions. Soy candles are non-toxic, which appeals to consumers who are concerned about the air quality of their environment.
When you purchase candles for your home or as gifts, be sure to consider all the advantages that soy candles offer. Non-Toxic Soy candles will not pollute your home's air quality with toxic chemicals that you wouldn't want your pets to breathe in let alone your children. Feel at peace knowing that your soy candle will provide hours of scent without harm. "Breathe Deeply, because you can!" Natural and Renewable As an easily renewed resource, soy is used to make a wide array of products. Soy is completely biodegradable and, as such, is a perfectly eco-friendly material. When you use soy candles, you can feel good about not polluting your home or the environment. Best Bang for your Buck Soy candles are the most inexpensive, toxin-free candles available. Our soy candles burn approximately 10 hours per ounce! For reference, a votive will burn 20 hours, a tea light 5 hours, our jumbo candle bowls 100+ hours - so your money goes further. Less Soot and Great Scent Retention Soy candles produce little to no soot. Because of this, our candles are more aromatic. We infuse our soy candles with only pure essential oils in order to maintain our all natural model. No perfumes here! Some customers ask me if I have any candles that smell like fruit punch, bubble gum, etc. I kindly respond that my products are solely plant based. For reference, how often do you come across a bubble gum tree on your nature hikes? Each time you light a soy candle you can be at peace, knowing that you aren't polluting your air quality. |
